How Sustainability is Changing Fashion
What is sustainable clothing?
“Sustainable fashion refers to clothing that is designed, manufactured, distributed, and used in ways that are environmentally friendly.”
As consumers, we have so much power to change the world by just being careful in what we buy and nowadays, it can be about ‘fast and affordable’ fashion or clothes made cheaply to meet demands for hot new styles. It isn’t enough just looking for quality in the clothes we buy, we must ensure that there is quality in the lives of the people who make them.
Organic cotton will not only wash well and last you a long time, it saves us all from pesticides and is better for the health and land of the farmers whilst also protecting wildlife.
Under the Global Organic Textile Standard (G.O.T.S.) farmers and field workers are protected by stringent social criteria and by the ban on the use of poisonous chemicals that can severely affect the health of farmers and their families.
It can take more than 20,000 litres of water to produce 1kg of cotton, equivalent to a single T-shirt and pair of jeans. That’s why rain captured from the monsoon season makes up 95% of the water used.
EarthPositive® apparel is packaged in biodegradable PVC-free packaging, and in 100% recycled pre-consumer cardboard boxes.
EarthPositive® has a ‘No Airfreight’ policy. Goods do not transport by air, instead, they use containerised ocean shipping, and therefore the carbon footprint generated by transporting is more like a carbon fingerprint.
To ensure that EarthPositive® does not contribute to the social injustice seen in manufacturing, commonly known as sweatshop labour, since 2006 they have made transparent their manufacturing supply chain with independent audits by the non-profit organisation the FAIR WEAR FOUNDATION (FWF)
Introducing our new ‘Earth Positive’ T-shirts, certified by global organic textile standards, our 100% organic cotton tees are the new modern day must have. These have also been made and created using renewable green energy from wind turbines and solar panels.
